Do You Have That Portrait from 2009?

I received an email request tonight from Linda Moholt, Executive Director at the Tualatin Chamber asking for her corporate portrait from 2009. At first I looked at the folder names in my Outlook program on the computer but couldn’t find it. Maybe when I moved from Outlook on Windows over to Outlook on Mac I had misplaced her email folder. Hmmm.

Next I asked Linda and she thought the portrait was taken in May 2009, so I searched both my Outlook folders, Mac folders, and finally my archive DVDs. Nothing for the Chamber in May 2009.

Finally I did some searching for the keyword “Chamber” and found a folder from January 2009. When I cycled from the office back to my home in Tualatin I looked in my stack of archived photo DVDs and sure enough, January 2009 had all the portraits from our corporate session some three years ago.

Lessons learned: label my Outlook and Mac folders better so that I can find them quicker.

The Tualatin Chamber is growing membership during a tough economy thanks to the diligent efforts of our Board, CEO and enthusiastic member community.

Standing Up for Life

As a father of six precious children I have come to the conclusion that human life begins at conception and therefore should be protected from harm. Today we had the annual Roe v. Wade Rally for Life in Portland, Oregon with support from our local community, churches and Christian believers. Live music got us into a thankful mood, then we heard inspiring speeches from an Archbishop, speeches from pro-life workers, sang patriotic songs, then finished with a peaceful march from Pioneer Courthouse Square to the waterfront.

Patriotism for our Veterans

I support the heroism, bravery and freedom of liberty that embodies our veterans today. A few years ago I discovered that the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) had a group in Tualatin just for people like me that wanted a way to show patriotism. We started up the Men’s Auxiliary for the VFW in Tualatin and have been helping meet the needs of veterans in our community. The Men’s Auxiliary is open to men who have a parent, step-parent, grandparent, son, daughter or sibling that served in a foreign war. My father served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict.

On Friday we met at the VFW building to host the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce where a check for $13,239.24 was presented in memory of Cpl. Matthew Lembket to the Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools. This money is a scholarship for Tualatin High School students, and the funds came from the annual Regatte Run.

Our local VFW contributed $250 to this fund and are proud to support such a good cause.

Children are a Blessing

Informal Large Group Photos done Quickly

Every year I attend my Alumni association holiday party and during our event I am the designated group photographer. Because most of us want to talk with old friends and make new friends, we don’t really want to be interrupted for a group photo that will take away from our social time. What I’ve done the last few years is to find a high vantage point that allows me to aim downward and photograph the large group facing upwards.

The home of Mike and Vicky had a loft where I could stand and then look downard into the living room and kitchen where the party was taking place. With my zoom lens set to 24mm I can fit in a large group like this. I only took three shots and was done in under 90 seconds, so our party could continue with the least amount of disruption.

2011 Tualatin Chamber – Holiday Auction

As a member of the Tualatin Chamber I enjoy attending and photographing the annual Holiday Auction that helps raise funds each year. Businesses choose to donate items of value, members make bids, then the proceeds benefit the chamber. Attendance was up this year and we had fun seeing how many wonderful items there were, from meals, to vacation rental homes, to wine, and everything in between.

Here’s a formal portrait of my dad created by another photographer in 1997:

My father loved to snap photos of our family and I am so grateful that he did document our history so well.

He died in 2002 on May 19th and his memory lives on in the photographs that we have, and the memories that we hold in our minds and the emotions in our hearts.

I’ve had the honor of creating portraits for clients that were then used at the funeral services because it captured the essence of a person well loved.

What a blessing to have family photos.
